Forest Lawn implements tree inventory

Posted on November 10th, 2011

As part of our Landscape Renewal Plan, Forest Lawn recently completed a full inventory of all of the trees in the maintained cemetery landscape. The inventory is an essential step in the creation of a Tree Management Database for the cemetery. Forest Lawn Horticultural Manager, Matt Quirey, led the inventory project, with assistance from Forest Lawn and Heritage Landscapes staff, as well as other regional professional arborists.

The inventory project included basic tree condition assessment and GPS location data for each of the cemetery's approximately 3,300 trees (trees located in natural areas along Scajaquada Creek were not included unless they are located in maintained turf areas or are of a significant size). A biodegradable blue ribbon was placed around each tree trunk to indicate that tree has been inventoried.
